M. MASON Canggu: Bali’s Chicest Dinner Spot Away from the Beach Club Buzz

Wood-fired plates, house beats, and a lively crowd — here’s why M. MASON Canggu is worth dressing up for.

There’s no shortage of restaurants in Canggu, but if you’re craving something that feels both elevated and effortless, M. MASON might just be your new favourite dinner destination. Located along the ever-busy Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong, this modern bar and grill blends moody interiors, Mediterranean-inspired dishes, and just the right amount of Bali energy.

A Spot You’ll Keep Passing… Until You Finally Give In

We’d been eyeing M. MASON all week — walking past it en route to and from the beach, always buzzing with that unmistakable dinner-time hum. Candlelight flickers, the DJ spinning chilled house beats, and tables fill quickly with clinking glasses and shared plates. After seeing it so alive night after night (and reading a few rave reviews online), we finally booked a table with our friends. Verdict? Totally worth it.

“It’s the kind of place that makes you want to linger — stylish but unpretentious, with a menu designed for sharing and staying.”

The Vibe: Dim, Warm, and Designed for a Good Time

Think upscale-but-not-stuffy interiors with a mix of dark tones, ambient lighting, and the glow of an open kitchen. A live DJ spins soft house music, keeping the space lively but with just the right level of volume to keep the vibes in check — you can still talk across the table. Whether you’re out with friends or on a laid-back date, it hits that sweet spot between intimate and social.

What We Ordered: Smoky, Savoury, and Satiating

The dinner menu leans into fire and flavour — wood-grilled meats, seafood, and dishes with North African and Mediterranean touches. Here’s what we tried:

  • Spiced Cauliflower – Charred, perfectly seasoned, and so moreish. An unexpected standout.
  • Salpicon De Mariscos – Delicate and fresh octopus and prawns, beautifully plated.
  • Original Charcoal Chicken – Juicy but a bit underwhelming compared to the rest; would skip next time.
  • Kombu Cured Snapper (Specials) – Light, umami-rich, and beautifully balanced. A must-order.
  • Wood Baked Duck Rigatoni (Specials) – Rich, comforting, and full of depth. Possibly the dish of the night.

To drink, we kept things local with Kura Kura Island Ale, a smooth craft beer brewed right here in Bali.

Hot tip: Keep an eye on the specials menu — two of our favorite dishes came from there.

The Crowd & Service

We went as a group, but it’s the kind of place that works for everything from date nights to birthday dinners. The staff were friendly, attentive, and happy to walk us through the menu. They were even helpful in assisting us to open our beer cans each time we ordered one (of course leading us to order more!)

Planning Your Visit

  • Reservations: Highly recommended — it gets packed by dinner time.
  • Dress code: No rules, but it’s a great excuse to ditch the flip-flops and dress up a little.
  • Budget: Around 500,000 IDR per person. It’s not a budget spot, but worth it for the food, setting, and overall vibe.

If you’re looking for a lively dinner spot without the chaos of a beach club, M. MASON Canggu hits the mark — refined yet relaxed, social but never overwhelming.

Bonus: A Steakhouse for the Extra Boujee Nights

If you’re feeling extra fancy (or just love a great steak), check out CHOP HOUSE | M. — an elevated steakhouse and cocktail bar concept by the same team, located just in the backyard of the restaurant. Think dry-aged cuts, moody lighting, and craft cocktails.

Perfect for a romantic night out or serious foodies. You can even book out the place for events!
